2021 MAZDA CX-5- 2.5 TURBO

By: Larry O

From the introduction of the first cross over Sport Utility Vehicle in late 2012, badged as a 2013, the CX Series was quickly a hit! True to the then Zoom-Zoom moniker it was amazingly comfortable while remaining sporty and with great handling.

Stepping forward to 2021, Mazda has not missed its mark. We test drove the Signature Series 2,5 Turbo Premium Plus Package. It comes with the all-wheel drive option- not needed here in Myrtle Beach.

Its responsive, how responsive you may ask? As a certified Gear Head-Racer the car once taken to our very secret Coastal Torque Test Track (closed course and under police observation) it was really quick compared to other similar market segment opportunities. The Skyactive Drive combined with 250 horsepower and the 320 lb.-ft. of torque was delivered with a MSRP of slightly over $37,000.00 making it very affordable in my opinion- see side bar. The SUV is part grocery getter that will keep 4 adults wonderfully comfortable as well as a great family vehicle with room enough for the dogs in the hatch area.

Leather interior- yes leather, makes this exceptionally comfortable with power and heated seats in the front. Now is a good time to give you the feature of the CX-5 with this trim package. This includes Mazda Radar Cruise Control with stop and go function, Advanced Smart City Brake Support with day and nighttime pedestrian detection, Smart Brake Support with Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist and High Beam Control. More new standard features include automatic on/off headlights as well as automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers. This includes a new eight-inch full-color touchscreen display, windshield-projected Active Driving Display, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, windshield wiper de-icer and automatic folding door mirrors.

Rounding out the amenities, the available Touring Preferred Package includes the Bose® premium 10-speaker audio system, power moonroof, rear power liftgate and auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink®.

This is a wonderful vehicle to drive, easy to park and optioned like a luxury vehicle. The bang for the buck equation leads me-

I am giving the CX-5 my highest award- Two thumbs up.
